The Supporting Characters are a lower Westchester-based professional theatre company which is dedicated to the development of new theatrical works from initial collaborative lab sessions through public performance. Working with a core group of actors, directors, and writers, we provide a fertile artistic ground with freedom to fail, freedom to experiment, and freedom to bring bold original work to life in a process which recognizes that a play is not complete until it is seen by an audience.
Our reading series at the Pelham Art Center last season included: "Monstrous Love" by Rosemary Foley and LINCOLN CONTINENTAL by Kathy Kafer; Barry Malawer's CADILLAC; Robert Gulack's SIX HUSBANDS OF ELIZABETH the Queen; Kathy Kafer's I'M NOT NOBODY; and Nancy Dean's "Ripe Avocados." Our most recent reading this season was Ric Siler's FAMILY MATTERS. Join our guestlist by clicking info@thesupportingcharacters.com

Molly Callahan in NEW ORLEANS
SIX HUSBANDS OF ELIZABETH THE QUEEN
The Supporting Characters presented our first production, an Equity showcase of Lloyd Pace's NEW ORLEANS, in New York City in November 2007 with ETC Prods.* Here's a review of the premiere, starring Molly Callahan. The play received a public reading at The Pelham Library in October; here's Peter Kramer's Journal News blog on the evening.
The second production of our 2007-08 season was Robert Gulack's SIX HUSBANDS OF ELIZABETH THE QUEEN, also in New York City while we searched for a Westchester venue. This play, too, was first offered as a public reading. Details on this production here.
Public readings are an important part of our developmental process, as we seek audience feedback and give the writer an opportunity to evaluate the play outside of a lab setting in preparation for production. The 2008 series was in residence at Pelham Art Center, 155 Fifth Avenue, Pelham.
